Link to UC Davis How to send samples from outside the US 18 December 2008 from Angela Silva, UC Davis Yes, we accept samples from outside of the United States. The cost for the CA test is $50 US funds. We will need 20-30 mane or tail hairs with the root follicles attached.

You will find the equine CA information, import permit, forms and pricing on the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory Website at: www.vgl.ucdavis.edu Click on the services icon, click on the horse icon, then click on the shopping cart icon.

You will register for a MyVGL account; fill in your information, the horseʼs information and which test(s) you are requesting. You will print out a bar-coded submission form with instructions and a place to tape the hair follicles.

You have the option to; pay on-line, pay by check or fill out the credit card form that prints out with the bar-coded submission form.

You will receive an email confirmation when your sample arrives into the laboratory. Please allow 5-10 business days for results once the sample arrives into the laboratory. The results will be sent to you via email and a hard copy sent by US mail.

If time is of the essence we recommend you send the sample via FedEx or UPS to the address listed for overnight couriers.

If you have a link to AllBreed for your horse(s) that does speed things up a bit. You can copy and paste the links to the pedigrees into your email for each horse.

If your horse/foal is a family member or related to a known or suspected CA Carrier ( N/CA),or an affected individual ( CA/CA) please specify.

UC Davis forms to use for credit card payments, submission forms and if necessary an Import Form are available for downloading at the VGL website:

The US IMPORT form is required for all packages containing hair samples arriving from outside the United States of America. One IMPORT FORM is valid per package and covers all sample contents. It must be attached to the outside of the package for easy access by US Customs. Request a current IMPORT FORM if not available on site.

The price of a CA test is 57,50 Euro (excl. 19% VAT). [aprox:$75.55 plus 19% tax]
The invoice with bank details, will be sent together with the result.

The test can be done on hair roots. Please send in the hair roots and a sample submission form, which you can print out from our website. ("Genetic properties') If you cannot print them please let us know and we will send some sample submission forms by post. You do not need an import permit within the European Union.

UPDATE 11/09 - Following several requests regarding SCID and CA, today we have added a combination for these tests to our price lists. We will activate new sample submission forms on the internet as soon as possible. The combination of SCID and CA can be ordered by selecting the test code P837 (http://www.vhlgenetics.com/vhl/webcard.php?artnr=P837) The price for the combination of both tests is Euro 115.00 excl. VAT. If you want to submit samples using the current version of the sample submission form, please add this test code manually (by handwriting).
