LFS testing in USA:

Lavender Foal Syndrome (LFS), also called Coat Colour Dilution Lethal (CCDL). Lavender foals are characterized by an unique coat colour and neurological dysfunction which leaves them unable to stand. Because LFS is relatively rare, there is little in the veterinary literature about it. The Animal Health Diagnostic Centre at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in America has recently announced that a genetic test for Lavender Foal Syndrome is now available. For further information please visit this link: http://ahdc.vet.cornell.edu/news/lfs.cfm Cost of test is $47.00 USD.

• Contact your Breed Registry and inform them of the horses you intend to test and the tests required. The Registry may ask you for phenotype details of the sire, dam and siblings of the horse to be tested
• Your Breed Registry will supply you with a "hair kit" which will include a label containing the name of the horse that you want to test, date and country of birth, its sire and dam, sex, colour, and test requested.
